DownsSteam Toowoomba is a volunteer-driven, community-led tourist railway based in Drayton near Toowoomba. It operates heritage rail experiences across the Darling Downs and is focused on preserving and restoring historic steam rail assets.
The organisation was formed around the restoration of steam locomotive C16-106, Southern Cross Works No. 28, built around 1914. Its heritage work includes locomotive restoration, rolling stock collection and the development of an active rail precinct on the former Drayton sidings. The precinct includes museum and station facilities linked to its rail operations.
DownsSteam runs regular passenger services and special rail journeys, including steam shuttle trips from Toowoomba Railway Station to the Drayton museum precinct and between Drayton and Wyreema. It also offers longer themed trips to places such as Clifton, Pittsworth, Brookstead, Cambooya and the Stanthorpe region, along with private charters and events. The business also offers souvenirs, membership, volunteering and donation options.
